1964 was a special year in Fender's history. In the first half of that year, it was decided to change the winding wire to a specific dark brown wire called - Plain Enamel.
It was a period when single-coil pickups were still wound by hand. It was only in the second half of the year, after the company was bought by CBS in search of savings and increased profits, work efficiency - the previous, very time-consuming and labor-intensive manual winding method was replaced with modern solutions - introducing fully automated winders.
Together with BAZOK, we decided to create a clone of these rare and extremely sought-after pickups, to allow everyone to fell the magic of the 60s.
B.A.F 64' Strat Single Coil are hand-wound pickups with an open and at the same time. Full of dynamics, which allows to convey the smallest nuances of playing. Due to its characteristic mid-range, this pickup is a perfect match for full-size humbuckers in the bridge position.
This pickup can be built in two versions:
FLAT – where the magnets are the same height. This is an option that works well in fingerboard radii higher or equal to 9.5″
STAGGERED – where the magnets have different heights. (“historically correct” version, designed by Leo Fender) This is an option that works well in fingerboard radii lower or equal to 9.5″ Remember that in music “rules” are meant to be broken – there are guitarists who use the Staggered version playing on guitars with ultra-flat fingerboards with a radius exceeding 20″ :).
Middle pickup is wound RWRP (Reverse-wound, Reverse-polarity – magnetic pole reversed and wire wound in the opposite direction compared to the other single-coil pickups in the same guitar which alows to receive hum canceling effect in 2,4 positions).
